Simple steps to get your JOY back!

1. Log your activities and rate them for pleasure on a scale of 0 to 10. The activity which gives you a great deal of pleasure or joy would be rated 10. Then balance your days by ensuring you have an activity each day that gives you pleasure (rated 8 or higher).

2. Stop overthinking and practice mindfulness (bringing all your attention to your present moment).

3. Channel the younger you before the stress of life took over. Think of activities you enjoyed doing when you were younger and do that thing.

 

4. Take a break from your current environment! Plan a minivacation or a longer vacation if you have the financial means.

5. Stop denying yourself! As parents and/or spouses we get in the habit of sacrificing our needs for the sake of others. Of course, it is important to be considerate of our loved ones; However, sending yourself a message that you are also important is critical.  Find small ways to cater to yourself.

6. Try something new. Explore hobbies. Start a new project.

 

7. Get sunshine- Just 15 minutes of sunshine can boost your mood and increase your ability to experience joy.

8. Reduce Passive Activity. While I enjoy streaming my favorite show until I complete a season; the mental benefits are stronger if you engage in activities which involve you actively participating.
